Privacy
This page explains what Sjuby keeps about you, why, who can see it and how long we hold it.
What we collect
- Account: name, date of birth, verified mobile number, email, city and language. Businesses also give a company name, licence number and director.
- Ads: the text and photos you post. Photos are stored without hidden metadata such as location.
- Messages: conversations with other users and with support.
- Saved addresses: only if you add one — nothing on Sjuby needs an address. If you use the search that helps fill one in, what you type in that field is sent to our address search provider to find matches; we do not keep a record of what you searched for, and we keep no map coordinates. A saved address is the one you confirm, not the one the provider suggested.
- Payments: your card is held by our payment provider, not by Sjuby. We keep the last four digits, the brand and the expiry so you can recognise it, plus every receipt.
- Devices: the browser, device type and IP address of each sign-in, so you can see and end sessions you do not recognise.
Why we use it
- To run the marketplace: show your ads, deliver messages, take the payments you agreed to.
- To keep people safe: verify numbers, review ads and reports, detect abuse, act on the law.
- To tell you what matters: replies, expiry warnings, receipts and security alerts, as you set in Notifications.
We do not sell your data or show third-party advertising.
Who sees what
- Everyone: your ads, your display name, your city and how long you have been on Sjuby. Never your number, email or a saved address — those are yours alone, and a saved address is never shown on an ad or used as your billing address.
- People you message: the conversation and your display name.
- Sjuby staff: only what their role needs. Moderators see ads and reports; support sees your account and tickets; every access is logged.
- Providers working for us: identity and sign-in codes, payments, photo storage, email or SMS delivery, and address search. Our servers and database are hosted in London (UK) with encrypted connections.
- Authorities: when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Ads stay visible until they expire or you remove them; expired ads are kept in your account history.
- A closed account can be restored for 30 days. After that we remove your name, contact details and company details and delete your ads, photos, saved searches and cards. Receipts and the record of moderation decisions are kept as the law requires.
- Sign-in records and notifications are kept for a limited period, then deleted.
Your choices
- Edit your details and notification preferences in My Sjuby.
- End any session from Account and security.
- Close your account from the same page.
- Ask support for a copy of your data or to correct it.
Cookies
Sjuby uses only the cookies it needs to keep you signed in and to recognise your device for security. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.
Your browser also keeps a short list of the ads you have opened, so the home page can show you “Recently viewed”. If you are not signed in, that list stays in your browser and goes no further; if you are, it is kept with your account for thirty days so the same list is there on your phone. Either way, Clear history on the home page removes it, and signing out clears this browser’s copy.
